If you may be experiencing an eye emergency please call the office to be triaged by one of our clinical staff to make sure you are seen appropriately.

Most eye-related issues can and should be seen at an eye doctor's office with the appropriate equipment to view the surface and back of the eye. 

Some issues do require advanced care that we cannot provide in an office-setting. Such emergencies will be referred to the nearest Level 1 Trauma Center (Harborview Medical Center). 

Eye Emergencies Seen In Office:

• Sudden red painful eye
• Sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes
• New double vision
• Temple ache with associated vision changes
• Foreign body in or around the eye
• Injury to the eye 
• Work-related injuries
• Pupil changes
• Severe light sensitivity
• Excessive watering
• Possible abscess or cellulitis
• And others

Medical Emergencies Requiring 911:

• Laceration or expulsion of contents of the eyeball itself (requires Level 1 Trauma Center)

• Sudden loss of vision accompanied with common symptoms of stroke (face drooping, slurring of words, confusion, with or without chest pain)

• Motor vehicle accidents involving possible brain injury (seek emergency care first).
