PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

THE DAY BEFORE

  • Please remove all makeup and lotions.    


  • The anesthesiologist insists that you have nothing to eat or drink after 11:00 pm the night before. Under unusual circumstances, exceptions to the rule might be made, but only after discussion with Dr. Sumnicht.    


  • For those who take MORNING medications, you may do so with a small sip of water.


  • Diabetics on Insulin: Please bring your insulin with you to the surgery center.  


  • The case nurse at the surgery center will be calling you in the afternoon the day before your surgery to let you know what time to arrive at the surgery center on Tuesday.   

THE DAY OF SURGERY

  • Do not wear makeup or lotion on the face. 


  • Take a shower the morning of surgery.   


  • Have a driver take you to and from the surgery center.  


  • Leave your shield on until you get home and settled. 


  • You may remove the shield and your glasses. 


  • Start taking the drops after you have arrived home.


  • Place the shield over your eye during naps and at bedtime with the tape provided at your preoperative appointment. 

   

  • Follow up Wednesday morning for your 1 Day Post Op appointment.
